“Keep in mind it’s not the time spent or the number of moves used.  It is the best outcome for the client that takes precedence.”

Ross Emmett

The Emmett Technique

What is the Emmett Technique?

The Emmett Technique is a gentle, safe and non-invasive method of muscular pain relief, recognised in over 40 countries worldwide. The technique was developed by Ross Emmett in the late 90’s, and is recognised as one of the fastest growing alternative therapies in Australia.

The Emmett Technique is a unique form of body therapy that involves light-touch sequences at specific points of the body to encourage a relaxation response. This can be effective at reliving muscle tension & discomfort, creating postural change and improving movement. The therapy has been known to provide dramatic effects towards many common complaints, even for first time clients.

The technique is safe for all ages & complements both traditional medical treatments & other holistic methods used to treat pain and discomfort.

How does the Emmett Technique Work?

The Emmett Technique is an understanding of the body response to light touch. It suggests that the body reacts in a similar way to the functions of a touch-screen device. The points used in the Emmett Technique are referred to as Emmett Points. They are similar to 'Trigger & Acupuncture Points', but are not the same. These small receptors allow access to the brains Neuro-pathways, via the therapists touch. The brain then receives, evaluates, & responds to this sensory stimulus to initiate a relaxation response in the soft tissue. Aside from directly influencing muscle action, these points may also have an emotional and memory attachment.

What to Expect from a Treatment?

The Chameleon Approach

The adopted motto of the Emmett Technique is “the Chameleon Approach”, meaning that Emmett Practitioners are trained to assess, adapt & apply the treatment to the client’s specific needs and beliefs.  The pressure is not painful or heavy & can often trigger an immediate release.

The session is usually performed over light clothing and typically lasts between 30 - 50 mins. Although, some moves achieve better results when the touch is applied to skin, so your therapist may ask you to loosen or remove a particular garment of clothing if necessary. Depending on the current issue being targeted, the therapy may be performed while the client is standing, seated or lying on the treatment table.

You may be asked some questions about your general health and the reason for your visit, in order to tailor the appointment accordingly to your individual needs.

The therapy can also be used in combination with other therapies to enhance the treatment value, or may be used as an effective therapy on its own. It is important to keep hydrated before, during and after a treatment.

Other Emmett Technique Treatments offered:

Emmett Lymphatic Drainage

An Emmett Technique lymphatic drainage treatment uses a rhythmic sequence of gentle moves to stimulate the lymph nodes and move lymph fluid around the body to help stimulate and improve the efficiency of the overall system.

Rescue Recovery Technique

Stimulates the body’s central nervous system for recovery and relaxation of the body.
